Friendly, Effective Puppy Training in Wakefield
Looking for puppy training classes in Wakefield or Oulton? My small-group sessions are designed to help your puppy build confidence, learn good manners, and give you the skills to handle real-life situations from day one.
Whether you’ve just brought your puppy home or you’re already dealing with biting, toileting accidents, or pulling on the lead, these classes provide clear, practical guidance that works in everyday life.
What Your Puppy Will Learn
Our puppy training classes in Wakefield focus on the behaviours that matter most:
Calm behaviour around people and other dogs
Reliable recall (coming back when called)
Walking nicely on a lead
Settling at home and in public
Reducing biting, jumping, and barking
Everything is taught using reward-based methods that are safe, proven, and easy to follow at home.
”We’ve just completed the 6-week puppy course and I honestly can’t recommend Amys Canine Coaching enough. Our German Shepherd , Kaiser, has come on massively in such a short space of time — not just in basic obedience, but in confidence, focus, and calm behaviour.
The sessions were well structured, practical, and really enjoyable, with clear guidance that works in real-life situations, not just in class. Amy has a brilliant way of explaining things and understands dogs — including larger, intelligent breeds — inside out.
What stood out most was how supportive and approachable Amy was throughout the course. No question ever felt silly, and we always left knowing exactly what to work on at home.
If you’re looking for a knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely passionate local dog trainer, this puppy class is worth every penny. We’d do it again without hesitation"
- Yvonne & Kaiser the German Shepherd
Small Classes, Real Support
Classes are kept small so you’re not just another number. You’ll get:
Individual guidance during each session
Support tailored to your puppy’s personality
Help with your specific challenges
If you’re struggling with something specific, I’ll show you exactly how to handle it — not just in class, but in real-life situations around Wakefield and West Yorkshire.
Flexible Catch-Up Sessions
I understand that life doesn’t always fit perfectly around a training schedule. That’s why my puppy training classes in Wakefield include up to two complimentary catch-up sessions if you know in advance that you’ll need to miss part of the course.
This is especially helpful if:
Your puppy won’t be fully vaccinated until week 2
You already have a holiday, event, or outing booked
You know there’s a scheduling conflict before the course begins
As long as your trainer is informed before the course start date, you can arrange a 30-minute catch-up session to cover the training exercises and guidance from the class you’ll miss.
Each client can receive a maximum of two catch-up sessions per course.
Please note: if you miss a class without notifying your trainer before the course starts, a catch-up session will not be available for that missed week.
These flexible catch-up sessions are designed to make puppy training in Wakefield easier and more practical for busy owners, while helping your puppy stay on track throughout the course.
“Polly our Shihpoo puppy bonded to Amy instantly, Amy was so kind and I could tell she just really loves her job. I would recommend Amy’s classes to any new puppy owner or dog of any age — she really knows how to get the most out of your dog in a positive way, reinforcing good behaviour.”

A Better Start for Your Puppy
Early training makes a huge difference. Puppies who receive structured training early are:
Easier to manage at home
More relaxed around new people and environments
Less likely to develop problem behaviours later
The goal isn’t just obedience — it’s helping you raise a calm, well-behaved dog you can enjoy taking anywhere.
My Training Approach
I use force-free, positive reinforcement training methods, focusing on rewarding the behaviours you want rather than punishing unwanted behaviour.
This approach:
Builds confidence and trust
Creates long-lasting results
Is suitable for all puppies, regardless of breed or temperament
Training is designed to be practical, easy to follow, and effective in real-life situations.

”We really enjoyed your puppy training course, especially Iris! We’ve learned a lot not just about how to train our puppy but also about what food it better for Iris. We will keep up the training not only to achieve good habits but because Iris enjoys it so much. Thank you!"
